Anne Guerra Obituary

PHOENIX, AZ - Anne Roskos Guerra, born May 24, 1920 - October 19, 2016, died at the age of 96 in Phoenix, Arizona where she resided with her daughters Marla Jo Harr and MaryAnn Guerra.

Anne was born and raised in Sharon, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Michael and Anna (Sokol) Roskos She was one of seven siblings including Mary Grexa, Michael Roskos, Joseph Roskos, George Roskos, John Roskos and Marjorie Robb, all deceased. Anne married Joseph A. Guerra on September 16, 1944, and he preceded her in death on October 29, 2013. During their 69 delightful years of marriage, Anne lived in Niles, Ohio where she, along with her husband, were local entrepreneurs who had successfully launched and grew the Guerra Insurance Agency. After retirement they had the opportunity to spend 20 years enjoying life, golf, and friends in Clearwater, Florida.

Anne, known as a very independent woman, was instrumental in creating, sustaining and building the well known insurance agency that continued to run after her 1983 retirement by two of her children Michael Guerra and Diana Richards.

Anne is described by her children as as amazing lady now, and from her time. She is remembered as a wonderful mother, always there when needed by family and friends, a pillar of the community, and an individual who possessed the important values of integrity, honesty, determination, persistence and resourcefulness. She was known for always giving back to the community. She volunteered and participated in the Parent Teacher Association, a leader in the girl scouts, and supported the Niles McKinley Band Boosters. She was active in the Insurance Womens Association and the Exchange Student programs.

She also participated in the Area Chamber of Commerce and other civic organizations. She was active in the Trinity Lutheran Church, located on Chestnut Street in Niles, Ohio where she was a part of the choir throughout her membership. Singing was one of the things Anne enjoyed most throughout her entire life and God blessed her with a beautiful soprano voice. Anne is also known for traveling extensively with family and dance friends as well as spending every Saturday night out dancing with her husband Joe at Avon Oaks.

Anne loved all animals, always having at least one dog and cat enjoying life as part of the Guerra family. She passed on that love of pets to her children and grandchildren. We will all especially remember Anne for her love of cards and bingo. She and Joe played cards with her sister Marge and her husband Chuck every Friday night and we all laughed at the passion that was exuded over a few nickles and dimes. In her last years bingo was the event she looked forward to and it was icing on the cake when she moved to the Stratford Assisted Living Facility in Phoenix and found out that not only was bingo free but she could even win money. That was Anne, the small pleasures were always the best. Anne loved to save her pennies, but she would give you the shirt off her back in a heartbeat. She will be missed by many for that special thoughtfulness.

Anne is survived by her four children, Diana (Richard) Richards of The Villages, Florida, Michael (Alice) Guerra of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Marla Jo Harr and MaryAnn (Lee Evans) Guerra all of Phoenix, three grandchildren Bryan (Shannon) Richards and great-grandson Deacon Richards of Charlotte, North Carolina, Joseph Guerra and Raleigh Guerra both of Phoenix, all of whom she was incredibly proud.
