WARREN - Craig Mathews Paugh, 69, died at home on Tuesday evening January 12, 2016.
Craig leaves behind his wife Ruth (Marshman) Paugh whom he married on April 3, 1971; three daughters, Lisa Paugh of Warren, Katherine Paugh of Warren, Gretta (Chris) Long of Jacksonville, North Carolina; a nephew, Jonathan Marshman of Belton, Missouri; a niece, Anne (Josh) Progner of Bradenton, Florida; a great niece, Ivy Nevaeh Progner; aunts and uncle, Doris Mathews, Joanne Paugh and Willard Mathews and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James A. and Leah Jean (Mathews) Paugh and by his sister Cindie Paugh who died when she was very young.
Craig was born in Warren, Ohio on November 1, 1946 the son of James A. and Leah Jean Paugh. Craig's father was well known in the Warren area for pop distribution and later as an insurance agent for both Wollam Insurance and Monarch Life Insurance. During Craig's childhood and youth, Jim and Leah were involved with church activities and boy scouts events. While Leah was foremost a homemaker, she did work at Rappolds Co. and for many years, she was the proprietor of Leah's Treasure Chest.
Craig, like his father, was on the Cradle Roll at Tod Avenue United Methodist Church which he attended as a member for most of his life. As a boy, Craig attended the after-school activities at the church and belonged to Boy Scouts where he earned numerous badges. About three years ago, Craig and Ruth transferred their memberships to First United Methodist Church of Warren.
Craig graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1964. He attended YSU as a part-time student in the engineering program.
In 1966, during the Vietnam War, Craig entered the Army. He served in the Military Intelligence and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in 1968. Craig has been a member of the American Legion Post 540 (Cortland) since 2009 and also belonged to Trumbull County's Chapter 11 of the Disabled American Veterans.
While still in school, Craig worked at two of Warren's eating landmarks: Isaly's Dairy and The Hot Dog Shoppe. Before getting hired at General Motors, Lordstown, Craig was employed as a draftsman at both Heltzel Steel and Wolkoff's Steel. Craig spent the majority of his working career at Lordstown and usually drove truck during layoffs. After retiring from GM, Craig drove truck until he became a part-time driver for Anderson Tours. Anderson provided opportunities that frequently resembled vacations. Craig's enjoyment of people and love of driving were both part of the allure.
Craig was first and foremost a family man. His world revolved around and within his immediate and extended families. While he worked hard to provide for and meet the needs of his family, good times like holidays, birthdays, and vacations were an integral part of the family fabric.
Friends, also, meant a great deal to Craig. He made friends easily and kept in contact with them. He was comfortable with everyone, conversed freely and mingled effortlessly.
God, Country and Family were always important to Craig and he passed on his love of each to his daughters. He will be sorely missed.
The funeral will be Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. The Rev. Rick Oaks will officiate. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service.
