Gerald Murray Obituary

CORTLAND - Gerald W. Murray Sr., 84, formerly of Niles, passed away at 3:09 p.m. on Saturday March 5, 2016 at the Trumbull Memorial Hospital following complication of surgery.

He was born in Washington, Pennsylvania on June 2, 1931 the son of Kenneth and Edna (Brahs) Murray.

He was a graduate of Martins Ferry High School and served in the United States Navy and Air Force for over 20 years. He was honorably discharged and retired as a Staff Sergeant of the Air Force in October of 1972. He began working as a roll grinder at Thomas Steel until he retired in 1993. He was a member of St. Stephen Church and enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Gerald is survived by a son, Gerald "Jerry" Murray Jr. of Niles; daughter, Rebecca "Becky" (Patrick) Ellwood of Girard; two grandsons, Gerald (Erin) Murray III of Niles, Joseph Murray of Girard; brother, Donald (Patricia) Murray of Warren and a sister, Mildred Riggle of Dallas, West Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia G. (Neider) Murray whom he married on November 3, 1956 and who died on December 5, 2009 and a brother, Eugene Murray.

Calling Hours will be Tuesday, March 8, 2016 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home where the St. Stephen Bereavement Ministry will have a 7:30 p.m. prayer service. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Stephen Church preceded by a 11:10 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home. Rev. James Korda will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Greenhaven Cemetery.
