WEATHERSFIELD TOWNSHIP- Mary E. Filipcich, 85 passed away peacefully at 2:30pm on Monday March 24, 2014 at the residence where she lived for 64 years.
She was born on March 11, 1929 in Duquesne, Pa. a daughter of John and Helen (Murmak) Hrebovcin. She later settled in Youngstown, Ohio in the early 1930's with the family. On July 2, 1949 she married Steve Filipcich in Holy Name Catholic Church, Youngstown, and they celebrated 61 years of marriage prior to his passing on February 23, 2011.
Before her marriage she was employed for the Kress Company of Youngstown. Mary was a homemaker and enjoyed her family, cooking, baking and making crafts. She entered and won many recipe contests in local newspapers and craft contests in the Senior Division at the Canfield Fair. She also enjoyed collecting "Santa" figurines. Mary was a longtime member of Saint Stephen Church and volunteered in the school cafeteria in the 1960's.
Mary is survived by two daughters, Marie (Dan) Farmer of Richlands, North Carolina, Barbara Sappio of Niles; four grandchildren, Christine (Hector) Quintana of Dubuque, Iowa, Elizabeth Shott of Richlands, NC, Rachelle Hardison (fiancee, Eric Gardener) of Richlands, NC, Michael Sappio of Niles; two great-grandchildren, Hector and Bella Quintana of Dubuque, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Helen Sobinovsky and brother John Hrebovcin.
Calling hours will be Sunday, March 30, 2014 from 5 to 7 pm at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. Service of Christian Burial will be Monday, March 31, 2014 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Rev. Thomas Kraszewski will officiate. Burial will be in Kerr Cemetery.
