Peter Ruman Obituary
NILES - Peter L. "Pete" Ruman, 89, passed away at 8:18 p.m. on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at the St. Joseph Health Center emergency room following a short illness.
He was born in Trenton, Pennsylvania on April 11, 1926 the son of Stephen and Anna (Palko) Ruman and came to Niles as a child. He attended Niles McKinley High School and was a member of Saint Stephen Church. Pete enjoyed polka music, gardening, playing the accordion and harmonica, reading the newspaper, doing cross word puzzles, and especially singing Slovak songs with his brothers.Over the years, family celebrations were very special to him.
Pete retired in 1984 from the City of Niles water and light department with 20 years of fathful service. He previously was employed at various steel mills and in his younger years, did construction and masonry work for several area contractors.
Pete is survived by a son and six daughters; Anthony T. (Kyle) Ruman Sr. of Niles, Marilyn (Harold Dean) Bokros, Stephanie (Doug) Mead both of Brookfield, Colleen (Bob Mahaffey) Ruman of Austintown, Jacqueline (Jim Vrabel) Alexander, Janice (Dennie Cartwright) Ruman, Debbie (Vincent) Tursack all of Niles; eleven grandchildren, Trisha, Samantha, Lisa, Julie, Emily, Nicholas, Anthony, Anthony Jr., Zachary, Jacob and Michael; four great-grandchildren: Prescilla, Alyvia, Evelyn and Colleen; sister, Mary Ann (James) Casey of Niles.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, wife Colleen P. Reigle Ruman whom he married March 22, 1958 and who died November 28, 2008, four brothers Steve, Frank, Walter and William.
Calling Hours will be Friday, November 20, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at St. Stephen Church. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery.
