NILES - Reuben Victor Bennett, 92, passed away peacefully at 8:45 p.m. on Saturday August 6, 2016 at the Shepherd of the Valley Assisted Living.
He was born in Brookville, Pennsylvania on July 19, 1924 the son of James Franklin and Lydia Evelyn (Dolby) Bennett.
He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II in the military police division in India and Burma. After 30 years, he retired as a scarfer at Republic Steel - LTV Steel. He was a member of the Niles and Cortland Moose Lodges, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Niles Scope Center and the VFW where he attended many of their annual reunions. He enjoyed boating, card playing but most of all he cherished the time spent with his family.
Reuben is survived by two daughters, Brenda (Greg) Majecic of Vienna, Diane Lee Bennett of Norfolk, Virginia; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Colleen (Vandervort) Bennett whom he married on March 21, 1946 and who died on April 6, 1993; his second wife, Evelyn A. (Seach) Widomski Bennett who died on December 31, 2009; son, Victor Eugene Bennett; three brothers, Thorne, Ralph, Infant James and a sister, Jennie Heilbrun.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cortland Moose Lodge.
