HOWLAND - Robert G. Canann Sr., 76, died at 9:45 p.m. on Friday April 24, 2015 at the St. Joseph Health Center following a short illness.
He was born in Niles on August 10, 1938 the son of Joseph A. and Anna Marie (Halker) Canann and lived in this area all of his life.
Robert was a 1958 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and attended the First United Methodist Church of Niles. He retired in 2000 after working 32 years as a laborer at Copperweld Steel Company. He was an avid bingo player and enjoyed going to Mountaineer and trying his luck with scratch off lottery tickets. He was a fan of the Cleveland Indians, Browns and Cavaliers.
Robert is survived by a son, Robert G. Canann Jr. of Niles; daughter, April L. (Patrick) Watson of Niles; six grandchildren, Patrick Watson, Christopher Watson, Michael Watson, Aaron Watson, Rebecca Canann, Elizabeth Canann; former wife and companion, Sally Houser; two step daughters, Patty (William) Leach of Warren, Kathy (Roger) Yeager of Masury; step son, Tom (Donna) Houser of Mineral Ridge; ten step grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; half brother, Thomas Canann of Akron; half sister, Carol Ann Hyatt of Norman, Oklahoma; four nephews, Joseph Canann Jr. of Niles, Donald Canann of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Richard Canann of Granbury, Texas, John Canann of Howland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen Mae (Boyd) Canann whom he married in January of 1966 and who died November 13, 1973; step mother, Marian Canann; brother, Joseph E. Canann Sr.; half brother, James Canann; two nephews, Larry Canann and Charles Canann.
The funeral will be Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Rev. Nathan Howe will officiate. Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
