Thad Thirion Obituary

NILES - Thad H. Thirion Jr., 70, died at 4:00 a.m. on Friday September 25, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a short illness.

He was born in Warren on November 18, 1944 the son of Thad H. and Mary Jane (Sharlock) Thirion Sr. and lived in Niles since his marriage 48 years ago.

Thad honorably served in the United States Marine Corps from 1962 to 1966 and was a Vietnam Veteran. He also retired from the Youngstown Air Reserve Station after 16 years of dedicated service. He loved going to the annual Drill Instructors Reunion at Paris Island and meeting with his boot camp friends and prior Drill Instructors.

He worked at Brainard Strapping for 18 years and retired from Ohio Jobs and Family Services. With his outgoing and friendly nature he made many friends in life and in his "retirement" job at the Jewish Community Center in Youngstown where he worked as a life guard and fitness center attendant.

His beloved grandchildren were the light of his life and he enjoyed watching and cheering for them while they played sports. He also enjoyed college football especially The Ohio State Buckeyes. He and Pat traveled the world seeing many countries and most of the Caribbean Islands, they just returned from an adventure to China.

Thad leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 48 years, Patricia "Pat" (Hammond) Thirion whom he married on October 21, 1967; daughter, Tracey (Rich) Ferenchak of North Lima; son, Ty (Stacy) Thirion of Millersport; five grandchildren Makenzie, Hannah and Ricky Ferenchak, Grady and Gwendolyn Thirion; three sisters, Nancy (Chuck) Hepburn of Leesburg, Florida, Peggy (Allen) Porter of Florida, Donna Waldren of Warren; four brothers, Tim (Peggy) Thirion of Ashland, Kentucky, Tom (Michelle) Thirion of Cortland, Ted (Stacey) Thirion of Hubbard, Terry (Lisa) Thirion of Howland.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Thad H. Thirion III who died on October 24, 1993.

Calling Hours will be Monday, September 28, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home where the St. Stephen Bereavement Ministry will have a 6:30 p.m. prayer service. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Noon at St. Stephen Church. Rev. Richard Murphy will be the celebrant. Military Honors will be provided by the Youngstown Air Reserve Station.
