Thomas Vigorito Obituary

PHOENIX, AZ - Thomas William Vigorito passed away peacefully on April 3, 2015 at the age of 93. Mr. V was born in Niles on December 21, 1921. Before moving to Arizona in 1968 with his wife Mary P. Salcone Vigorito (predeceased August 24, 1999) to become one of the first Arby's roast beef franchisees west of the Mississippi, he resided in Youngstown and worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube as a steel mill worker.

Mr. V served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. He served as a gunnery operator for the 8th Air Force's 389th Bomber Group. He flew 37 missions, including 25 out of Africa and Italy and 12 out of England. He earned an Air Medal and three Oak Leaf Clusters. His 389th Bomber Group also received two Presidential Citations.

Mr. V loved greyhounds. He enjoyed owning and watching his dogs run official races and also loved caring for retired greyhounds as home pets, often caring for as many as four greyhounds at a time.

Mr. V is survived by his three sons Thomas A. (Janet) Vigorito, Paul J. (Victoria) Vigorito, Richard J. Vigorito all of Phoenix; two grandchildren, Anthony R Vigorito and Jennifer M. Bishop and one great grandson Tyler J. Bishop. He is also survived by his second wife, Annette L. Vigorito of Niles and her four children Anthony J. (Jane) Vigorito of Niles, Patricia A. Porter of Boardman, Philip M. (Sharon) Vigorito of Lordstown, Janet M. Vigorito of Niles; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his four brothers Gabe, Joe, Philip, Rudy Vigorito; two sisters Barbara Reino and Duley Liberatore.

We will miss his infectious smile and twinkling blue eyes. We will celebrate his life yet morn his loss. Godspeed, Mr. V. A moment of silence will be observed during the Vigorito Family Reunion this August.
