MINERAL RIDGE - Woodrow "Woody" Tillery Sr., 97, passed away peacefully at 3:20 p.m. on Sunday November 29, 2015 at the Vista Center at the Ridge following an extended illness.
He was born in Girard, Ohio on January 10, 1918 the son of John F. and Cora F. (Whitford) Tillery and lived in this area most of his life.
For many years he was a salesman for the Schwebel's Bakery in Youngstown until he retired in 1976. He and his wife loved to travel and made their home in Florida for twelve years. He had a good sense of humor and was considered the Don Rickles of Fort Myers Beach. He also enjoyed fishing and working at the Florida party boats marina.
Woody is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline (James) Domer of Niles, Sallie Pearce of Cortland; son, Woody (Gayle) Tillery Jr. of Austintown; eight grandchildren, T. Brad (Leah) Franken, Corey B. Franken, Amy S. (Jamie) Harris, Jaclyn (Casey) Barnham, Emily (David) Kline, Terri (Ron) Wentworth, James (Melanie) Domer, Mark Domer; eleven great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth (Dorchock) Tillery whom he married on March 30, 1940 and who died on April 9, 2013; brother, Wilbur; three sisters, Virgil Mae, Mildred, Juanita.
Service of Christian Burial will be Friday, December 11, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home, Niles. The Rev. Carl Kish from St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Cortland will officiate. Inurnment will be in All Souls Cemetery.
