WARREN - Daryl William Day, 90, formerly of Nancy Street, Niles died Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 12:45 am at Washington Square Nursing Home following an extended illness.
 
He was born in Niles on January 13, 1922 the son of James Harold and Myrtle Louise (Neiss) Day and lived in this community most of his life.
 
Daryl was a 1940 graduate of Niles McKinley High School where he was a member of the high school band and orchestra and also played with the VFW Boys Military Band.  He was an Army veteran of World War II where he was recipient of a Purple Heart and several combat badges and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.  Daryl retired in 1985 after working 23 years as a sectional supervisor for the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services.  He was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church, Niles, Mahoning Lodge No. 394 F & A M, Master in 1964 and Order of the Eastern Star, Ida McKinley Chapter.  He volunteered for Niles Community Services and the American Red Cross.
 
Daryl is survived by four cousins, Shirley Harris, William Neiss, Donald Ellis and Sandra Hochadel.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Helen Henderson whom he married on May 17, 1941 and who died on June 17, 2009.
 
The Funeral will be Friday, June 29, 2012 at 11:00 am at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service.  Rev. Dr. Bernard Oakes will officiate.  A Masonic service will be at 10:00 am.  Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.

    I am sorry to learn of the loss of Daryl. We were next door neighbors on Nash Ave when I was a teen. I have many fond memories of both he and Norma.
