NILES - Mary H. Bender, 95, formerly of 155 East State Street, died at 10:53 am on her birthday, Sunday December 20, 2009 at the Autumn Hills Nursing Home following an extended illness.
 
She was born in Niles, Ohio on December 20, 1914 to Harry G. and Nell (Ryan) Frech and lived in the Niles community all her life.
 
A 1932 graduate of Niles McKinley High School, she was the former owner of Frech's Grocery Store, a clerk at Troutman's Drug Store and Macali's Grocery Store.  Mary was a member of St. Stephen Church, Niles Catholic Womens Club and the Warren Bridge Club, she enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge.
 
Mary is survived by Son, James(Emily) Bender of Carmel, IN; daughter, Jean (Pino) Pietrangeli of Howland Twsp.; three grandchildren, John Pietrangeli of Cleveland, Mary Ellen (Steve) Snyder of Carmel, IN, Jamie (Charles) Stapleton of Carmel, IN; four great grandchildren, Max Snyder, Lily Snyder, Riley Stapleton and Bella Stapleton.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Bender whom she married on May 5, 1934 and who died on March 27, 1955; a Sister, Helen Ludwig and Brother, John Frech Sr.  
 
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 10:00 am at St. Stephen Church.  Calling Hours will be one hour prior to the mass at church.  Burial will be at St. Stephen Cemetery.
 
Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Stephen Parish Tuition Angel Fund 129 W. Park Avenue, Niles, OH 44446

    Our deepest sympathy,with the passing of Mary. She was a dear friend of our mother, Helen Nestor. They also worked together at Macali's.
