HOWLAND - Charlie Felton Keel, 88, passed away peacefully at 7:43 p.m., Friday June 3, 2016 at Shepherd of the Valley in Howland.
He was born in Williamston, North Carolina on August 10, 1927 the son of Charlie B. and Mary M. (Gurganus) Keel.
He was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II serving six months, a Retired Army Air Force Veteran of ten years active duty and also retired from the Air Force Reserves after 20 years.
Charlie retired December 31, 1987 after working 36 years for the Federal Government as an Industrial Property Supervisor. He was a member of St. Rose Church in Girard, the Girard American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Air Force Reserve Base Retirees, National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Chapter 2122 and the AARP. He also volunteered for 15 years at the Veterans Administration Clinic in Youngstown.
Charlie is survived by a son, Jeff J. Keel of Howland; two daughters, Ann Marie (Darren) Thomas of Delaware, Ohio, Debra Lyn MacDuff of Niles; three grandchildren, Wesley, Ian, Arthur Frank.
He is reunited with his wife after a 23 year absence, Shirley H. (Sylvester) Keel whom he married on August 21, 1965 and who died on November 10, 1993. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ann Strickland; brother, James B. Keel and sister, Elsie Lilley.
Calling Hours will be Monday, June 6, 2016 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home where the St. Stephen Bereavement Ministry will have a 6:30 p.m. prayer service. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen Church. Rev. James Korda will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery.
