NILES - Geza Lendvay, 78, passed away peacefully with his family at his side at 1:24pm on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Trumbull Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
He was born in Kisfalud, Hungary on August 14, 1935 the son of Michael and Helen (Simon) Lendvay. After serving in the Hungarian Army, he came to America as a refugee during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956.
Upon arriving in the United States, he lived with thousands of refugees at Camp Kilmer in Owensboro, Kentucky. He started working at Johnson Rubber in Middlefield, Ohio and then attended and graduated from the National Electric School in Cleveland and worked for Lincoln Electric. From 1970 to 1975 he was the Owner and President of Home Decorating in Middlefield. He later became a partner in the ownership of the Atlantic Apartments in Warren and worked in the construction department at St. Joseph Hospital.
A member of St. Stephen Church, Youngstown American Hungarian Club, Hungarian Culture Center of Northeastern Ohio, Warren Italian American Heritage Festival and the Moose Lodges of Niles and Warren. He enjoyed boating, water skiing and traveling.
Geza is survived by his wife Alida G. (Macchia) Lendvay whom he married on October 31, 1981; son, Michael Lendvay of Cortland; daughter, Alicia Lendvay of Niles; granddaughter Katryn; brother, Michael in Germany; three sisters, Eluj, Margaret, Mary all of Hungary.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Paula.
Calling hours will be Saturday, May 24, 2014 from 10 to noon at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:30 pm at St. Stephen Church. Rev. Thomas Kraszewski will be the celebrant. Private entombment will be in Girard City Cemetery on Tuesday, May 27, 2014.
