MINERAL RIDGE - John Louis Strah, 92, passed away at 1:55 a.m. on Wednesday September 28, 2016 at the St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
He was born in Niles on September 15, 1924 the son of John and Mary (Danyi) Strah and lived in Niles most of his life.
John was a 1943 graduate of Youngstown East High School and a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and a former member of the Knights of Columbus #1681, and the Niles Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was a longtime well known musician. John worked for many years at National Gypsum Co. in the maintenance department. He was a welder at the RMI Company, a member of the Youngstown Sheet Metal Union and was employed by several area heating and cooling companies. He was the owner of Strah Printing, Strah Welding, maintained a Western Union Office, offered leather gifts, camera repairs and locksmith services.
John is survived by three daughters, Theresa (Jim) Hopper of Mineral Ridge, Barbara Farrell of Cortland, Frances (John) Jerome of McDonald; son, Michael J. Strah of Niles; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren and a sister Mary (Joseph) Harver of Mineral Ridge.
He was preceded in death by his wife Agnes Barbara (Koletich) Strah whom he married on September 29, 1951 and who died on March 3, 1990; two children, John Joseph Strah and Mary Frances Strah who both died on May 9, 1963.
Service of Christian Burial will be Saturday, September 1, 2016 at noon at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home with the Rev. John Michael Lavelle officiating. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery.
