NILES - Mary Frances Horvat, 91, passed away peacefully at 12:50am, Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at the O'Neill Healthcare Center , Lakewood, following an extended illness. Mary was born in Youngstown, Ohio on May 21, 1923 the daughter of Edward and Jennie (Tekavic) Yerman.
Mary has lived in Niles most of her life and moved to Lakewood two years ago. She was a 1940 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and the Youngstown Hospital Association School of Nursing. She retired from North Side Hospital with 40 years of faithful service, as a registered nurse. Mary was a member of Saint Stephen Church and volunteered for the Trumbull County Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Niles Community Services.
She is survived by a daughter Edwina Marie "Edie" Horvat of Lakewood; son, Edward Justin (Janelle Sparkman) Horvat of Sedona, Arizona; sister, Marjorie Cross of Columbus, niece, Jennifer (Ted Beidler) Cross; nephew, John Cross; niece, Tricia (Jim Miller) Shelton; Cousin, Robert Yerman.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Edward Joseph Horvat whom she married June 11, 1949 and who died on July 29, 2004; brother Edward Yerman; sister Anna Shelton.
The Funeral will be Friday, January 30, 2015 at Noon at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Murphy will officiate. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday one hour before the services. Burial will be in Saint Stephen Cemetery.
The family request that material contributions be made to the Niles Community Services, 401 Vienna Avenue, Niles, Ohio 44446.
