HOWLAND TOWNSHIP - Michael Verbanic, 91, passed away peacefully at 1:20 pm, Wednesday October 30, 2013 at the Autumn Hills Nursing Home following a short illness.
He was born in Monessen, Pennsylvania on September 19, 1922 the son of Joseph and Katherine (Knezevich) Verbanic.
Michael was employed for 40 years as a fitter and welder for Heltzel Iron and Steel Company, Warren and retired in 1989. He formerly co-owned the Southington Motel. Following retirement he was the gardener and yard caretaker for Dr. Kavanaugh.
He was in the CC Camps in Yellowstone before going into the Navy Seabee during World War II. An avid golfer, he enjoyed visiting the casinos, traveling to Ocean City, Maryland on family vacations, carpenter work, home building, spending time at the Eastwood Mall, and activities with his four granddaughters.
Michael is survived by two daughters, Cheryl A. (David Clutter) Margrave of Bristolville, Deborah L. (William) Draves of Niles; four granddaughters, Tiffany (Nelson) Caron of Savannah, Georgia, Bobbie Bahn and Kristen Margrave both of Orlando, Florida, Nikki (Jeff) Gardner of Fowler; three great-granddaughters Jaelynn Gardner, Eleanor and Vivian Caron; brother, Charles (Babe) Verbanic of Hollister, California.
He was preceded in death by his wife Anna M. (Mihokovich) Verbanic whom he married November 18, 1950 and who died on October 25, 1993; three brothers, John, Frank, Joseph Verbanic and a sister, Louise McCormick.
Calling Hours will be Sunday, November 3, 2013 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. The Funeral will be Monday, November 4, 2013 at 10:30am at the funeral home. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Trumbull County Honor Guard.
