Milton Cross Obituary

Milton B. "Milt" Cross formerly of Champion, Ohio, 80, passed away at 12:15 a.m. on Sunday, May 8, 2016 at the Windsor Heights Alzheimer's Special Care Center in Beachwood.

He was born in Olive Hill, Kentucky the son of Walter and Ruby (Whittacker) Cross. A United States Army Veteran of the Korean War he worked in the blast furnace area of Republic Steel in Warren until he retired in 1990. For many years, he served as Local Union 1375 President for Republic Steel. During his time with the Union, he became very active with Democratic political campaigns and was actively involved in 1972 with Walter Mondale's Campaign for Vice President. He enjoyed this level of his Union involvement tremendously.

Milton has several family members in Lexington, Winchester and Olive Hill, Kentucky. He loved to go to Kentucky and reminisce about his childhood days. His father was an engineer for the mines and moved his family throughout Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia. All of his ten siblings loved music and there was always music in their home. His one surviving brother, Isaac played his guitar recently at the family reunion. Milton loved time with family, especially his two nieces Sue Porter and her husband John Paul and Margaret Stockdale. Milton always loved horses and going to the horse parks and races in Kentucky.

His pride and joy were Ginger and Sonny, both Tennessee Walkers. He brought Ginger home from the Kentucky wild, trained her and later took her back to Kentucky to breed her. He was so proud when her offspring, Sonny was born.

Milton learned to fly from Ernie Hall and had his private pilot license for several years. His name and the year he soloed is in the Museum of Ernie Hall in Warren. He loved to tell his family about how he learned to fly and all his adventures in his airplane.

He loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. There was always laughter when he was around.

Milton is survived by two daughters, Debbie (Roy) White of Niles, Nora Cross of Niles; two sons, Doug (Theresa) Cross of Cortland, Brian (Sue) Cross of Warren; five grandchildren Matthew White, Christopher White, Doug Cross, Stephanie Pappas, Nick Cross; three great grandchildren, Mason White, Marin White and Jackson Cross; brother, Isaac (Linda) Cross of Moran, Kansas.
