Sheldon Owens Obituary
CHAMPION - Sheldon Allison "Spike" Owens Jr., 80, formerly of Maple Avenue in Niles died at 2:55 pm on Thursday April 24, 2014 at the Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Warren on March 28, 1934 the son of Sheldon Allison and Emma Mildred (Loveless) Owens Sr.
A 1953 graduate of Kinsman High School, he honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired in 1978 after working several years as the Trumbull County Dog Warden. He was a member of the Holiness Gospel Mission and the Army & Navy Garrison 242. He enjoyed country music, collecting stamps and coins, going to flea markets but most of all he cherished the time spent with his family and grandkids.
Sheldon is survived by five children, Gaylene Sue (Ray) Fickes of Kinston, North Carolina, Chris Lee (Vicki) Porter of North Bloomfield, Darla Jean Dutta of Lordstown, Shelley Rae (Robert) Teagarden of Warren, Valerie Lynn Swiger and Larry Putnam of Niles; twelve grandchildren, Amanda Rae Bayus, Robert Alan Teagarden, Savannah Rose Teagarden, James Larkin Teagarden, Christopher Allison Lee Porter, Jeremy Keith Porter,Amanda Gowdy, Adam Lizzie, Justin Terence Swiger, Elizabeth Ann Penezich, Danielle Nichole Swiger, Amber Elizabeth Fickes; ten great grandchildren; sister, Mary Jane Hathaway of Austintown.
He was preceded in death by his wife DeLores Jean (Williams) Owens whom he married on April 29, 1960 and who died on September 2, 2005; father, Sheldon Owens Sr.; mother, Emma Owens Della Santa; great grandson, Elijah Coy Swiger; two brothers, Harry F. Owens, Mark Owens Sr. and sister, Freda Daughtry.
Calling Hours will be Sunday, April 27, 2014 from 7 to 9 pm at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. The funeral will be Monday, April 28, 2014 at 11:00 am at the funeral home where friends may also call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery with Military Honors.
