NILES - Thomas Edward Mariani, 79, passed away peacefully at 6:07 p.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at the University Hospital, Cleveland following a three month illness.
He was born at home in Niles, Ohio on October 31, 1935, the son of Thomas and Nicolette (Celestini) Mariani, and lived here all his life.
Tom attended Niles McKinley High School and was of the Catholic faith. He enjoyed all outdoor activities including skiing, hiking, boating, biking and rollerblading. He cherished the family activities with his wife, children and grandchildren. He retired in 2002 as a scarfer for the WCI Steel Company, Warren plant where he was employed for 45 years.
Tom is survived by his wife, Elaine M. (McNamara) Mariani whom he married November 30, 1957, four daughters and two sons, Kimberly (Kevin) Goblinger of Warren, Lisa (Billy) Stinellis of Vienna, Thomas C. (Denise) Mariani Sr. of Niles, Tracey (Ted) Christman of Phoenix, Arizona, Christopher Mariani of Niles, Dr. Melissa (Mark McKelvey) Mariani of Columbus, Twelve grandchildren, Doug Littleton, Courtney Booth, Lauren (Jessica) Sanderson, Christian Stinellis, Lindsey Stinellis, Thomas C. Mariani Jr., Kyle Mariani, Matthew Mariani, Kaleigh Christman, Joshua Christman, Mychal McKelvey, Kara McKelvey, two great-grandchildren Nicholas and Kaden Booth and family friend C.J..
Besides his parents, Tom, was preceded in death by a grandson, Cory Patrick Mariani, three sisters, Lucille Brak, Mary Rishel, Rosemary Gimma, and a brother Anthony Mariani.
At his request, a private service was held on Thursday afternoon at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. Tom was an organ donor of his eyes so others would be able to see the beauty of Aspen, Colorado where he will be placed.
