HOWLAND - Violet F. Cross, was carried by angels into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 18, 2014. She closed her eyes at her home on earth and opened them to see her eternal home with Jesus.
Violet was born in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania on June 18, 1930 the daughter of Joseph and Anna Baxa. She was a devoted, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She spoke fluent Czech and had a wonderful sense of humor and heart of forgiveness. She loved to laugh. As well as being with her children and grandchildren, she was a master at Chinese checkers, loved reading and studying her Bible and baking her famous chocolate chip cookies, Texas sheet cake, nut rolls and chicken noodle soup. She and her husband Fred traveled extensively and wintered in the past years in Texas and Florida. They are members of the Faith Baptist Church, Niles and one of her greatest joys was singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School. She was a homemaker and the co-owner and helper with her husband's business.
Violet is survived by her husband of 64 years, Fred J. Cross whom she married on October 29, 1949; five children, Christine Marie Steffy of Woodstock, Georgia, Deborah Ann Giesey and Violet's son-in-law Bill "her Billy" of Girard, Junellen Bolls of Dallas, Georgia, Freddie Joe Cross of Niles, Timothy Douglas (Elayna) Cross of Girard; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; brother, Charles Baxa of High Point, North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her parents three sisters, Emily Wujcik, Alice Gravink, Olga Corrado and three brothers, James, Daniel and Infant Joseph Baxa.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, January 21, 2014 from 5 to 8 pm at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. The Funeral will be Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Faith Baptist Church where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Pastor John Preusser will officiate. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
