Rev. Arney Gene Porter, 90, passed away peacefully at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday August 30, 2022 at the Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home in Liberty following an extended illness. He was born in Carter County, Kentucky on April 16, 1932 the son of Everett and Gracie (Erwin) Porter.
Rev. Porter was the founding Pastor of the Holiness Gospel Mission in Niles, Ohio, a church he stared in 1975. "God was everything" to Rev. Porter. His daily life was ministering and he was always willing to help everyone. His legacy came from prior generations of ministers, missionaries and continues today with the church ministry of his daughters and grandchildren. He honorably served in the United States Army as a Medic. Rev. Porter also worked as a mechanic at several local garages and as a welder at Allied Metals in Niles. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and helping his neighbors with small engine repairs. On many Saturdays he worked at home as a mechanic and welder fixing lawn mowers and cars.
Rev. Porter is survived by his wife Betty Lou (Henderson) Porter whom he married on June 15, 1956; three daughters, Diana Williams of Niles, Brenda Kim (Jonathan) Rogers of Maysville, Kentucky, Vicki (Michael) Pasterik of Corry, Pennsylvania; twelve grandchildren, Laurie Williams, Harold "Jasper" Williams, Rebecca (Christopher) O'Meara, Victoria (Wes) Cheung, Michael Pasterik, Matthew Pasterik, Elizabeth Pasterik, Emily Pasterik, Jeffrey Pasterik, Abigail Pasterik, Arabella Pasterik, Cathryn Pasterik; two great grandchildren, Andrew and Alaina Cheung; sister, Doris Tackett of Warren; brother, Edward Porter of Olive Hill, Kentucky and many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, church members.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Porter; infant sister, Dolores Porter and sister, Wanda Maddix.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Friday September 2, 2022 at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Sam Gandee of Alliance will officiate. Burial will be on Tuesday September 6, 2022 at Niles City Cemetery.
