VIENNA - Betty Jane Haynie 91, passed away at 4:33 a.m. on Wednesday January 2, 2019 at the St. Joseph Health Center following a long illness.
She was born in Brookfield, Ohio on September 21, 1927 a daughter of George and Grace Luella (Haun) Kowacich.
She was a 1945 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and a member of the Liberty Bible Church. Betty made light bulbs at Ohio Lamp, worked in the classified advertisement department at the Niles Daily Times, a clerk at Fairway Department Store. In the summer months, she and her sister "Sharkey" managed the Waddell Park Swimming Pool concession stand. Betty enjoyed playing card games of hearts and canasta; bingo and yahtzee. She was an excellent baker and loved to share her baked goods with her family.
Betty is survived by a son, Walter (June) Haynie Jr. of Killeen, Texas; four daughters, Jacquelyn (Tammy) Haynie with whom she made her home in Niles, Penny Haynie of Niles, Grace Haynie of Austintown, Margaret (Ed) Moore of Niles; son-in-law, Marty Hite of Newton Falls; eleven grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband Walter E. Haynie Sr whom she married on November 1, 1947 and who died on December 2, 2014; a daughter, Kathy Hite; three brothers, James Kowacich, George Kowacich, Millard Kowacich; two sisters, Roseanna Miller, Ellen Sharkey and a step-sister, Mary Miller.
Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday January 4, 2019 at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. The funeral will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the funeral home. Pastor Allan McCracken will officiate. Entombment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery.
