Betty Lou Porter, 88, passed away at 9:58 a.m. on Wednesday December 21, 2022 at the Trumbull Regional Medical Center following a short illness. She was born in Carter County, Kentucky on August 20, 1934 the daughter of Everett and Vivian (Lawson) Henderson and moved to the Niles area in 1955. She was a graduate of Olive Hill (KY) High School and attended Morehead State University.
Betty Lou married Rev. Arney G. Porter on June 15, 1956. She worked for eleven years at Packard Electric Company and as a sales lady for fifteen years at the Reismans Furniture Store in downtown Niles.
Mrs. Porter, the Pastor's wife, was a founding member of the Holiness Gospel Mission in Niles, Ohio, a church started in 1975. She was the church secretary, treasurer, Sunday School superintendent and Missionary president. She was a member of the singing group "Harmonizers" who shared their music at several churches and revivals. Betty was a gracious hostess who shared her home and cooking on many occasions and for many different events, from weddings, showers, birthdays to bereavement lunches. She enjoyed arranging flowers. baking and cake decorating.
Betty Lou is survived by three daughters, Diana Williams of Niles, Brenda Kim (Jonathan) Rogers of Maysville, Kentucky, Vicki (Michael) Pasterik of Corry, Pennsylvania; twelve grandchildren, Laurie Williams, Harold "Jasper" Williams, Rebecca (Christopher) O'Meara, Victoria (Wes) Cheung, Michael Pasterik, Matthew Pasterik, Elizabeth Pasterik, Emily Pasterik, Jeffrey Pasterik, Abigail Pasterik, Arabella Pasterik, Cathryn Pasterik; two great grandchildren, Andrew and Alaina Cheung.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Arney G. Porter who died on August 30, 2022; two brothers Michael V. Henderson and Infant Jackie Henderson.
Calling hours will be from noon to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday December 27, 2022 at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Sam Gandee of Alliance will officiate. Burial will be on Wednesday December 28, 2022 at Niles City Cemetery.
