Cora R. Rounds

NILES - Cora R. Rounds, 99, passed away at 3:15 pm Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at the Autumn Hills Nursing Home. She was born Warren on January 5, 1914 the daughter of Pete and Julia (Liberatore) Scarnecchia and lived in this community her entire life. A 1932 graduate of Niles High School, she was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Niles Senior SCOPE center and was an avid Notre Dame Irish football fan.   She retired as the head cashier of the Woolworth 5 & 10 store in downtown Niles after working there for 13 years.  She was a wonderful baker and enjoyed cooking, dancing and especially cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Cora is survived by a daughter, Elaine (Carmen) Palumbo; two grandsons, Michael (Kim) Palumbo, Rich (Stephanie) Palumbo; four great grandchildren, Miranda Timko, Anthony Palumbo, Lexie Palumbo, Nicholas Palumbo all of Niles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank H. Rounds whom she married on September 30, 1943 and who died on July 8, 1993 and a brother, Edward Anthony Scarnecchia. A Service of Christian Burial will be Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 11:00 am at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service.  Rev. Thomas Kraszewski will officiate.  Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
