Daniel R. Flenner

Daniel R. Flenner, 81, passed away at 6:45 a.m. on Sunday May 22, 2022 at the Hospice House in Poland following a short illness. He was born in Greenbrier County, West Virginia on April 30, 1941 the eighth child of Willis O. and Mary Julia (Prater) Flenner.

He honorably served in the United States Army. He came to Ohio in 1965 to work as an oiler in the maintenance department at General Motors Lordstown. He loved working around his house making his yard beautiful as well as helping his neighbors, especially special neighbor Erma Lee Freeman. He was a longtime member of Abundant Grace Church on West Park Avenue in Niles. He also enjoyed the friendships at the Red Dragon Convenient Store.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 59 years, Emma "Jake" VanKirk whom he married on September 6, 1962; daughter, Mary Jane (Tom) Markovich of Niles; son, Cecil Flenner of Niles; four grandchildren, Daniel Markovich, Jonathan (Brianna Owoc) Markovich, Michael (Allison) Krummell, Derek (Rebecca) Crislip; two great granddaughters; three sisters, Wilma Demastus of New York, Bernadine (Bill Nix) Robinson of Texas, Sondra (Ed) Behmer of Alabama and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves his pride and joy, his dogs, Shelby, Rosa, Clifford and Jaxson. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Betty Marie Flenner who died on February 20, 1979; parents; in-laws; daughter-in-law Debra K. Flenner; three brothers; three sisters and his best friend Howard Smith.

Calling hours will be from 10 to noon on Thursday May 26, 2022 at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. The Funeral will follow at noon at the funeral home. Rev. Tony Lehman will officiate. Burial will be in Kerr Cemetery.
