Daniel Robert Pecchio

NILES - Daniel Robert Pecchio 91, passed away unexpectedly at 11:25 p.m. on Friday January 11, 2019 at the St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. Dan was born in Youngstown on May 7, 1927 a son of Anthony "Tony" and Laura (Scanlon) Pecchio. He was a 1946 graduate of Youngstown Rayen High School and a 1964 graduate of Youngstown University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in business. He honorable served in the Unites States Navy Seabees and was awarded the Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal. He was an inspector for the Youngstown Board of Health for 26 years, the State of Ohio Health Department for 5 years and retired in 1993. For many years he also worked at Strouss Department Store. Dan was a member and past deacon of the Niles First Christian Church. Later in life, Dan started writing short stories and poems and proudly had his work published in the Catholic Exponent and the Review Newspapers. He enjoyed walking and exercising at the Niles Wellness Center, hunting, taking photographs and traveling with his wife. Most of all he loved and cherished the time spent with his family. Daniel is survived by his wife, Carol (Shea) Pecchio whom he married on June 27, 1975; two daughters, Laura Lynn Kello of Youngstown, Jacalyn (Michael) Cefalde of Austintown; two sons, Robert A, (Peggy) Pecchio of Aurora, Anthony D. Pecchio of Longmont, Colorado; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; two sisters in law, Cathy (Richard) Bassett of Niles, Betty Michelmann of Niles and six nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at the Niles First Christian Church. A Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at the Niles First Christian Church. Rev. Chris Stark will officiate. Family and friends may also call at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church 33 N.
