Eugene "Gene" Sizemore , 91, passed away at 1:34 p.m. on Thursday May 2, 2024 at the Cleveland Clinic after a short illness. He was born in Elys, Kentucky on August 27, 1932 the son of Belle Sizemore and was raised by his grandmother whom he fondly called "mommy" Ollie Sizemore.
Gene honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a piano builder for Baldwin Piano in Cincinnati and retired in March of 1993 after working 28 years in the paint department at General Motors Lordstown. He was the "Greatest Papaw" and loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. He played his lottery numbers (130 and 810) daily and enjoyed taking trips to the casinos.
Gene is survived by three children, Ben (Marianne) Sizemore of Naugatuck, Connecticut, Cathy Walsh of Niles, Sherry (Tom) Opria of McDonald; five grandchildren, Amanda (Jason) Juhasz of Sagamore Hills, Christopher Harkins of Cincinnati, Matthew Harkins of Cincinnati, Jim (Amanda) Sizemore of Naugatuck, Connecticut, Evan Sizemore of Naugatuck, Connecticut; six great grandchildren, Mya Juhasz, Jackson Juhasz, Marietta Holtschneider, Michael Harkins, Melanie Harkins, Archer Harkins; great great granddaughter, Minnietta; sister-in-law, Katherine Lawson of Cleves, Ohio; brother-in-law, Jerry (Terry) Lawson of Burlington, Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his wife Norine (Lawson) Sizemore whom he married on December 26, 1953 and who died on May 11, 2016; grandson, Joshua Adam Thomas, son-in-law Robert Walsh and several brothers and sister-in-laws.
Calling hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday May 5, 2024 at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. The Funeral will follow at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be Monday May 6, 2024 at Pineview Cemetery.
