March 10, 1942 — June 5, 2014

NILES - Frank Anthony "Smitty" Smith, 72, died on Thursday morning June 5, 2014 at his residence. He was born in Blairsville, Pennsylvania on March 10, 1942 the son of Walter D. and Rose Ann (Verhosek) Smith Sr. and moved to Niles as a child. He was 1959 Niles McKinley High School Graduate and honorable served in the United States Air Force and Air Force Reserves for a total of 30 years. For many years he was a Reserves Officer at the Vienna Air Force Base. He was a member of St. Stephen Church and an active member of Boy Scout Troop #33 and served as the troop scoutmaster for many years. Frank is survived by two aunts, Kay Pitzer of Niles whom he dearly loved; Lonnie Verhosek of New Castle, Pennsylvania; many cousins including his shopping buddy, Linda Verhosek. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Walter D. Smith Jr. who died on October 28, 1975. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 5:00 pm at St. Stephen Church. Rev. Thomas Kraszewski will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery.
