NILES - Hazel Marie Evans, 86, passed away peacefully at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at her residence following an extended illness. Hazel was born in Globe, Kentucky on January 29, 1932 the daughter of Tony and Bertha (Collins) Stephens. She has lived in Niles most of her life.
Hazel was of the Baptist faith, enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, collecting ceramic roosters, caring and being with her children and grandchildren. Many years ago, she worked for two years at the U.S. Steel Company McDonald Works and also was a custodian for 20 years with the Niles City School System. She retired in 1998.
Hazel is survived by a daughter, Diane (Ralph Holbrook) Evans of Austintown, three sons, Keith Alan Evans at home, Ronald Dale (Debra) Evans of Leavittsburg, Dallas Ray (Pam) Evans of Bozeman, Montana, two sisters, Mary Holbrook of Niles, Shirley Padilla of Murphysboro, Tennessee, 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Vaughn D. Evans Sr. whom she married June 21, 1947 and he died December 13, 1978, a son, Vaughn D. Evans Jr., four grandchildren, a sister, Doris Butler, four brothers Junior, Bill, Charles and Jimmy Stephens.
Funeral services will be held at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home at Noon of Friday, September 7, 2018 with Pastor Darrell Cline of the Evening Light Apostolic Church officiating. Calling hours will be at the funeral home of Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in Kerr Cemetery.
