Hilda N. Strohmeyer

NILES - Hilda N. Strohmeyer, 95, passed away peacefully at 8:05 pm on Tuesday September 9, 2014 at the St. Joseph Health Center following an extended illness. She was born in Santa Maria, California on July 16, 1919 the daughter of Harry M. and Bertha (Buchanan) Thornburgh. She was a graduate of Santa Maria High School and received an associate degree in accounting from a community college in Santa Maria. Prior to her marriage and starting a family she was a telephone operator and dispatcher in California. She was a member of St. Stephen Church and enjoyed sewing, fishing, horse back riding and watching Jeopardy. In later years she was a sales clerk at Kmart for eleven years retiring in 1991. Hilda is survived by ten children, Joanne (David) Vickers of Berlin Center, Gertrude (Henry) Thompson of Sacramento, California, Loretta (Joseph) Ellis of Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, Ira C. Strohmeyer Jr. of Newton Falls, Janet Strohmeyer of Niles, Edward Joseph Strohmeyer of Niles, William (Sherry) Strohmeyer of Niles, Annette (Hassan) Fawaz of Knoxville, Tennessee, Dorothy Strohmeyer of Niles, Roberta Strohmeyer of Niles; 23 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; sister, Gertrude Jackson of Sacramento, California. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira C. Strohmeyer Sr. whom she married on July 14, 1945 and who died on July 22, 2002; two sisters, Mildred Prindle, Harriet Tenscher; brother, Larkin Thornburgh and a great grandchild. Calling Hours will be Friday, September 12, 2014 from 5 to 8 pm and Saturday, September 13, 2014 from 11 to 11:45 am at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will follow Saturday at Noon at St. Stephen Church. Rev. Richard Murphy will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Pineview Cemetery.
