To our Mother, Grandmother and friend: The
way you lived your life, and the strength and courage you have
passed to us by example will now help us comfort our sorrow and
comfort one another.
As I sit and write this, trying to find all
the perfect words or perhaps think of a moment in time or a story
to share that will convey our love of you to those who are reading
this, or hopefully spark their own fond memories of you from their
own past. It is now, that I reflect and begin to wonder how great
the number would be if we were able to count the many hearts you
have touched, from Beauty Shop to Bingo Hall and everywhere in
between you have brightened the lives of so many people.
You have been the cornerstone of an entire
family through the best and worst of times. When things were at
their worst during the most trying of times, you were always there
for us individually and as a family, providing all the love, care
and support. Even if you were hurting on the inside, you always
stayed strong for everyone around you. Lending a caring hand or
knowing all the right words to say.
When you became sick, I immediately started
thinking of my littler girl Sara and how much she loves you. I keep
thinking back to when her and I were sitting in the chair together
at home watching an episode of "Dora the Explorer". In this
episode, Dora's grandma made an appearance. I asked Sara, "Is that
Dora's Gommie?" She said "No that's her Grandma, her Gommie is at
Bingo!"
As hard as it is of me, and the rest of my
family we have a lifetime of memories and the rest of our lives to
sit around tables and remember the times we laughed and cried or
some of the funny things you did. I can only hope that through
stories, pictures and hopefully a little DNA that the qualities
that made you who you are, a tough as nails, generous, loving
person with a heart of gold, will be passed down to my
children and all of your other grandchildren and great
grandchildren.
Although the pain of losing you is great, our
love for you is greater. We will always be thinking of you and as
much as we wished you could stay with us, the thought of you in
peace and without pain warms our hearts. We love you Gommie and we
always will.
