James J. Blaylock

ELWOOD, INDIANA - James J. Blaylock, 79, passed away on Monday evening December 4, 2017 at Community Parkview Health and Living Center in Elwood. He was born in Middleton, Tennessee on February 22, 1938 the son of James and Addie (Cooper) Blaylock. On October 8, 1955 he married the love of his life Edna (Bogue) Blaylock. James served as a pastor at several churches during his life. He founded the Apostolic Bible Church in Tipton, Indiana in 1962 and served as it's pastor until 1973 when he moved to Niles, Ohio. James served as pastor for more than 17 years of the Apostolic Bible Church in Niles and he pastored in Parma, Michigan for a short period of time before he retired. He was licensed for more than 40 years with the A.L.J.C and the U.P.C.I. James and his wife Edna moved back to Indiana in 2016 and became members of the Life Church where their son, Scott is pastor. James loved to sing and was known for his wonderful voice. He was also known for being a sharp dresser. He enjoyed watching western movies. Gene Autry was one of his favorite actors, and Marshall Matt Dillon on Gunsmoke. James will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. James is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Edna L. (Bogue) Blaylock of Elwood; son, Pastor Scott (Carol) Blaylock of Ellwood; daughter, Rebecca Bryant of Mineral Ridge; three grandchildren, James D. Blaylock, Kaitlyn (Jeff) Boggs, John Caplinger; three great grandchildren, Gentrey, Gannon, Greyson Boggs; three brothers, Harold (Sheila) Blaylock, Joe (Bonnie) Blaylock, Robert (Cona) Blaylock; two sisters, Betty (Kenny) Ziegler, Judy (Ronnie) Jones and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gary Blaylock, James "Billy" L. Blaylock and a sister, Genice Harden. Calling Hours and Funeral services will be Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Life Church in Elwood, Indiana. Local Calling Hours will be Monday, December 11, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Apostolic Bible Church, 1623 West Park Avenue, Niles. The Funeral will be Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the church where family and friends may also call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Pineview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Life Church 800 S 22nd Street, Elwood, Indiana 46036.
