Joseph Wayne Clay

April 12, 1946 — July 22, 2024

Joseph W. Clay , 78, passed away peacefully at 6:30 a.m. on Monday July 22, 2024 at the Humility House following an extended illness. Joseph was born in Warren, Ohio on April 12, 1946 the son of William and Stella (Loomis) Clay and has lived in this area all his life.

Joseph was retired from the maintenance department at Hillside Hospital following 25 years of faithful service. He also worked for 20 years at Salem Community Hospital. He was a member of the Warren Revival Center. He enjoyed fishing and did a great deal of crafting with his wife Carol. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Joseph was a high school graduate and received an associate degree in electrical engineering from the Trumbull Branch of Kent State University.

Joseph is survived by his wife Carol Loraine Miller whom he was married to for 46 years; three daughters: Linda Lee Barnhart of Niles, Loraine Marie Sweet-Harris of Louisville, Kyleigh Clay of Niles; son Richard Allen Sweet Jr. of Tallmadge; eleven grandchildren: Derek Barnhart, Jamie Augustine Ray, Tricia Harris, Mariah Asimus, Tiffany Clay, Tabbitha Thacker, Joseph A. Clay Jr., Brianna Sweet-Lawn, Dakota, Madison, and Keegan Sweet; eight great grandchildren; three sisters Lula Foster, Liza Jane Clay, Marie Ramunno; brother Cecil Clay all of Niles, and many nieces and nephews.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; son Joseph A. Clay Sr.; granddaughter Grace Lee Cline; four brothers: Eugene Leedy, Harold, James, Millard Clay and a sister Mary Jackson.

Funeral services were held at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 with the Rev. Thomas Holbrook and the Rev. David Holbrook officiating. Burial was in Pineview Memorial Park.
