Joseph Arthur Guerra

NILES - Joseph Arthur Guerra, 93, 2567 Niles-Vienna Road died at 8:13 am on Tuesday October 29, 2013 at the St. Joseph Health Center following a short illness. He was born in Niles on January 3, 1920 the son of Dominic and Maria (Fagnano) Guerra and lived in this community most of his life. A 1938 graduate of Niles McKinley High School, he honorable served in the United States Navy Seabees during World War II. In 1954 he was the founder of the Guerra Insurance Agency and served as the president until his retirement in 1983. He was a founding member of the Niles Independent Insurance Agents and also was a member of the Tri-County Association. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Warren Elks Club, Niles Moose Lodge since 1967, American Legion, Amvets of Youngstown, Knights of Columbus 1681, San Filippo Neri Lodge, Italian American Association and American War Veterans for 21 years. An avid golfer, he enjoyed dancing, bowling, cooking, traveling and especially cherished spending time with his family and the family vacations. Joseph was a friend to all and a good friend to many. His mischievous smile and quick wit will be missed by all, especially his family. Joseph is survived by his wife Anne R. (Roskos) Guerra whom he married on September 16, 1944; four children, Diana (Richard) Richards of Niles, Michael (Alice) Guerra of Cortland, Marla Jo Harr of Phoenix, Arizona, MaryAnn (Lee Evans) Guerra of Phoenix, Arizona; three grandchildren, Bryan (Shannan) Richards of Charlotte, North Carolina, Joseph Guerra of Phoenix, Arizona, Raleigh Guerra of Phoenix, Arizona; sister, Rose DeChristopher of Niles and brother, Fred Guerra of Niles. He was preceded in death by a sister, Anne Rizzi and two brothers, Phillip Guerra, Fabian Guerra. Calling hours will be Friday, November 1, 2013 from 4 to 7 pm at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church preceded by a 9:30 am prayer service at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Pineview Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Trumbull County Honor Guard.
