Josephine "Sugar" Mcguirk

February 19, 1936 — October 1, 2013

NILES - Josephine "Sugar" McGuirk left this earthly life surrounded by family, friends, and her beloved Yorkie, Jake, at home in Niles on October 1. She is finally reunited and dancing with the love of her life, husband Ray, of 51 years, and her darling "KiKi," granddaughter, Caitlin Leasure, and many other loved ones. Born February 19, 1936 (her true age has finally been revealed!), she was the daughter of Sam and Eleanor Ezzo, and sister of Donnie (Marie). She attended St. Rose and Girard High schools, and the Youngstown Hospital Radiology program. As a young girl, her passions included roller skating, dancing, and shopping. She was a loyal, life-long friend to those she loved. Sugar met and married Ray in 1956, and in her own words, laughingly referred to herself as "just not the domestic type." She fiercely loved her children, Erin Leasure (Joe), of Warren, Colleen, of Niles, and Raymond (Sharon), of Charleston, S.C. She doted on her grandkids who affectionately called her "KooKoo", Nicole (Bob) Hogensen of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Olivia and Owen McGuirk, and great-grandson, R.J. Hogensen. She loved being a part of the corporate world at Arby's Inc., CETA, Manpower Inc., and Niles Municipal Court. Sugar wholeheartedly believed in giving to those less fortunate, including Catholic Charities and St. Vincent DePaul Society, and was a good and faithful servant of St. Rose and St. Stephen Churches. Sugar was definitely one of a kind, unique, and had a style all her own, and will be dearly missed. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, October 5, at St. Stephen Church in Niles. The family will receive family and friends from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m., with a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00. A celebratory luncheon will be held afterwards at Stoneyard Grill, 41 S. Main St, Niles. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Stephen School, 45 S. Chestnut St., Niles, Ohio 44446. Arrangements by Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home, 126 West Park Avenue, Niles, Ohio 44446 330-652-4311
