NILES - Laszlo G. Nemeth Sr.,
77, passed away at 1:41 pm Friday, April 26, 2013 at the Autumn
Hills Nursing Home following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Gyor, Hungary on April 19, 1936
the son of Geza and Anna (Takacs) Nemeth. As a Hungarian
Freedom Fighter, he escaped Hungary during the Russian Revolution
of 1956 and came to America on January 1, 1957. In 1972 he
settled in Niles and built the first convenient store in the city.
Convenient Food Mart was located on the corner of North Main and
East Madison Avenue. He sold the business in late 1976 and became a
truck driver for Harshman Industrial Cartage and also owned the VFW
on Federal Street.
He won the Golden Gloves in his weight division
and went into professional boxing out of Ohio. He was a
member of St. Stephen of Hungary Church, the Hungarian Club of
Youngstown where he served as a Board Member and the Niles Chamber
of Commerce. He enjoyed collecting gold and silver, creating
jewelry, playing poker and cards with family and friends, watching
birds and celebrating the Christmas Season by decorating his
home.
Laszlo is survived by four children, Judy (Ken)
Frayne of Rockford, Illinois, Lutz (Myrtill) Nemeth Jr. of Niles,
Thomas M. (Julie) Nemeth of Pinnacle, North Carolina, Erika I.
Meade and her fiancee, Hank Monroe of Warren; nine grandchildren;
three great grandchildren; brother, Geza Nemeth of Mineral Ridge
and sister, Eva Orosz of Hungary.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judyth G.
(Walsh) Nemeth whom he married on April 30, 1960 and who died on
December 11, 2012; two grandchildren; sister, Ilona Szeker,
brother, Jenci Nemeth, and two infant brothers, both who were named
Istvan Nemeth.
Calling Hours will be Sunday, April 28, 2013 from
4 to 6 pm at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. Mass of
Christian Burial will be at Holy Apostles Parish, St. Stephen of
Hungary Church, Youngstown on Monday, April 29, 2013 at 10:30 am
preceded by a 9:30 am prayer service at the funeral home.
Rev. Joseph Rudjak will be the celebrant.
