Mary Elaine Rivera, 90, passed away at 8:11 p.m. on Thursday April 30, 2026 at the Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home in Liberty. She was born October 14, 1935 in Warren, Ohio the daughter of Norbert and Marie (Casey) Entler. She was raised in Niles and after marriage she lived several years in Japan and Alabama before returning to Niles to raise her family.
Elaine was a 1953 graduate of Warren Saint Mary High School and a member of Saint Pope John XXIII Parish – Saint Stephen Church. A devoted wife, mother and homemaker, she enjoyed reading, sewing and cherished the time spent with her family and friends. For many years she was a member of the Niles Catholic Women’s Club, Church Women United, Birthright and delivered Meals on Wheels for forty years.
Elaine is survived by two daughters, Donna (John) Mark of McDonald, Jenny (Todd) Williams of Madison, Mississippi; two sons, Edwin (Paula) Rivera of Kempner, Texas, Robert Rivera (Dan Seifried) of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; fourteen grandchildren, Ryan (Adrianna) Mark, Christopher (Jennifer) Mark, Lauren Mark, Phillip Williams (Brad Palumbo), Dominic Williams, Patrick Williams (Katie Kehoe), Emily Rivera, Erin (Chris) Hamner, Abigail (Mike) Wagner, Ashley (Seth) Egry, Ava Wiery, Anna Wiery (Danny Linebaugh), Nicholas Wiery, Adelaide Dabney; eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin E. Rivera whom she married on August 2, 1958 and who passed away on July 25, 1994; daughter, Karen Ann Wiery and three brothers, Jack Entler, Daniel Entler and Edward Entler.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday May 5, 2026 at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday May 6, 2026 at Saint Stephen Church preceded by a 10:30 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home. Rev. Leo Wehrlin will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
