Nicholas J. Albu, 90 passed away peacefully at 12:57 a.m. on Wednesday March 11, 2026 at the Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home in Howland following a long illness. He was born in Youngstown, Ohio on August 30, 1935 the son of Nicholas S. and Marcella A. (Lysikowski) Albu and resided most of his life in the Niles community.
He was a 1954 graduate of Niles McKinley and honorably served in the United States Army National Guard. He was a member of Saint Pope John XXIII Parish – Saint Stephen Church and was a 4th degree member of the Knight of Columbus Niles Council 1681. Nick retired in 1997 after working 43 years as a machine operator at the National Gypsum Company in Niles. He wanted to stay a lifetime learner especially about topics important to his grandchildren whom he cherished.
Nick is survived by his children, Paulette Mahan of Niles, Kathy Brown of Howland, Carolyn (Ronald) Brophy of Bentonville, Arkansas, Michael R. Albu of Niles; six grandchildren, Marianne Sprankle, Frank B. Brown II, Megan L. Brown, Patrick (Brooke) Brophy, Nicholas Brophy, Michael R. Albu II; two great grandsons Michael and Matthew Albu; brother Charles (Linda) Albu of Niles.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Louise (Urda) Albu whom he married on August 16, 1958 and who passed away on February 28, 1996; two infant sons, Nicholas Albu, James Albu; daughter in law, Lori Albu; two sisters, Helen Hawkins and infant Mary Ann Albu.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday March 15, 2026 at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday March 16, 2026 at Saint Stephen Church preceded by a 10:30 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home. Rev. Leo Wehrlin will be the celebrant. Burial will be at Saint Stephen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Stephen Church.
