Norman R. Barninger

October 26, 1921 — April 1, 2013

GIRARD - Norman R. "Barney" Barninger, 91, passed away peacefully at 7:45 pm on Monday April 1, 2013 at the St. Elizabeth Health Center following an extended illness. He was born in Girard on October 26, 1921 the son of Daniel and Katherine (Gordon) Barninger and lived in this community his entire life. From 1936 to 1939 he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps.  He was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader for Pack and Troop #47 in Girard and was active in the city's Bicentennial events.  He was the recipient of the Order of the Arrow and the Silver Beaver Award.   A member of the Knights of Pythias, he was also an Elder and Deacon of the Disciples of Christ.  He retired in 1980 after working 40 years in the maintenance department at US Steel, McDonald Works. Norman is survived by his wife, Opal (Cline) Barninger whom he married on July 1, 1949; son, Daniel C. (Greta) Barninger of Youngstown; daughter, Brenda Lee (Mark) Pringle of Girard; two grandchildren, Scot Patrick (Jen) Pringle, Emily Claire Barninger; great grandson, Tyler James Pringle and a sister, Sara Round of Austintown. He was preceded in death by a infant daughter, Kathy Lynn Barninger; brother, Russell Barninger and sister, Ruth Barninger. Calling Hours will be Thursday, April 4, 2013 from 5 to 7 pm at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home.  The Funeral will be Friday, April 5, 2013 at 11:00 am at the funeral home.  Rev. Steven Brown Sr. officiating.  Burial will be in Girard City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Youngstown, Ohio 44512 or the Central Christian Church, 2051 East Market Street, Warren, Ohio 44483.
