Patrick G. Sylvester Sr. , 59, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday afternoon May 11, 2024 at the Trumbull Regional Medical Center of a heart ailment. He was born in Warren, Ohio on December 30, 1964 the son of James V. and Patricia R. (Fitzpatrick) Sylvester Sr. and lived his entire life in the Niles community.
Pat was a 1983 graduate of Niles McKinley High School where he excelled in football and track and field events. He graduated in 2000 from Youngstown State University with degrees in criminal justice and psychology. For the past 29 years Pat was employed as an adult Parole Officer with the State of Ohio. As a young adult, he owned and worked tirelessly at Sylvester's Restaurant in Niles. Pat was a lifetime member of St. Stephen Church and recently became a member of the church Parish Council. He was also a member of the Niles Men's Democratic Club and was a longtime supporter to Niles McKinley High School and John F. Kennedy High School.
Pat loved his family and cherished the time spent at family activities, most recently becoming Poppy to his beloved new grandson. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, his beagle dogs and his sports teams, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Guardians and Cavaliers.
Pat is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Carol (Nicholas) Sylvester whom he married on May 20, 1989; three children, Patrick (Amanda) Sylvester Jr. of McDonald, Mary (Jason) Sklenar of Mineral Ridge, Gina (Alex) Dager of Cortland; grandson, Daniel Joseph Sklenar; sister, Regina (Robert) Steines of Howland; three brothers, Joseph A. (Lori) Sylvester of Columbus, Michael P. (Sherrie) Sylvester of McDonald, John F. "Jay" (Julie) Sylvester of Niles; aunt, Patricia (Walter) Colbrun of Austintown; cousins Jeff Keel and Ann Marie (Darren) Thomas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pat was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James V. Sylvester Jr.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday May 16, 2024 at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home where the St. Stephen Bereavement Ministry will have a 6:30 p.m. prayer service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday May 17, 2024 at St. Stephen Church preceded by a 10:30 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery.
The family request that memorial contributions may be made to wife Carol to be dispersed among Pat's favorite charities.
