Paul Joseph Rickens

June 10, 1933 — August 31, 2015

NILES - Paul Joseph Rickens Sr., 82, passed away at 11:21 p.m. on Monday August 31, 2015 at the St. Joseph Health Center following an extended illness. He was born in Cresson, Pennsylvania on June 10, 1933 the son of Glenn J. and Lloydell H. (Stuller) Rickens. A United States Air Force Veteran, he entered basic training at the Sampson Air Force Base in February 1952. He then went to the Air Police School at Camp Gordon Georgia and later departed for Korea and served in the 51st Fighter Intecepter Wing for over a year. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he became a patrolman in Washington D.C. at the Capital and Senate Office Buildings. In 1958 he moved back to Cresson and worked for the police department. Paul later worked for U.S. Steel in Lorain and McDonald Steel where he retired in 1997. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed camping and spending time with his family. He was a Member of the Niles Moose Lodge. Paul is survived by three sons, Martin Rickens, Robert Rickens, Paul "Joey" Rickens Jr. all of Niles; brother, Thomas (Joyce) Rickens of Mansfield; four sisters, Patricia (Charles) Carnes of Niles, Donna Marie (Gene) Claar of Niles, Glenna (Carl) Westover of Cresson, Pennsylvania, Debra (Timothy) McElheny of Cresson, Pennsylvania and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma "Jeannie" (Krug) Rickens whom he married in 1960 and who died in 1999; brother, James Rickens and a sister, Lois Moreland. The Funeral will be Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery will military honors provided by the Trumbull County Honor Guard.
