Robert Earl Nelson

HOWLAND - Robert Earl Nelson, 82, passed away at 10:22 pm on Monday December 23, 2013 at the Vibra Hospital of Mahoning Valley, Trumbull Campus following an extended illness. He was born in Niles on June 15, 1931 the son of Earl A. and Anna R. (Morris) Nelson and lived in this community most of his life. A 1949 graduate of Howland High School, he attend Ohio University. Bob retired in 1990 from American Welding and Manufacturing after working 40 years as the Director of Purchasing. He attended the Howland Community Church and enjoyed vacationing in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He played baseball and basketball and was a fan of The Ohio State University and the Cleveland Indians. An avid golfer, Bob was a starter at Avalon Lakes Country Club, enjoyed playing at Oak Tree C.C. and with his league at Tamer Win. Most of all, he cherished the time spent at family gatherings especially during the holidays. Bob is survived by his wife Ruth E. (Becker) Nelson whom he married on February 19, 1955; son, Jeff Nelson of Louisville, Kentucky; daughter, Cindy (Bill) Walker of Columbus; two grandchildren, Matthew Walker, Erin Walker; sister, Sally Nelson and her special friend Emily Mercer of Storrs, Connecticut. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Patricia Williams. Calling Hours will be Thursday, December 26, 2013 from 4 to 6 pm at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. The Funeral will be Friday, December 27, 2013 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Rev. Brian Byrne will officiate. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Midland States, 1950 Arlingate Lane, Columbus, OH 43228-4102.
