Robert L. Hilliard

NILES - Robert L. Hilliard Sr. 86, went to be with the Lord and his wife Joyce on Sunday evening January 24, 2021 at the Trumbull Regional Medical Center. Robert was born in Butler, Pennsylvania on June 11, 1934 the son of William James and Bertha Ellen (Stevens) Hilliard Sr. and moved to Niles in 1954. From 1957 to 1959 he honorable served in the United States Army as a tank driver. Bob retired after 39 years as a Tool and Die Setter for General Motors. Bob enjoyed fishing and was active in many golfing and bowling leagues in the area. The greatest joy in his life was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchild. He was a great and generous man and a friend to all. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Robert leaves three children; son, Robert L. Hilliard Jr. and Carla Breitenbach of The Villages, Florida, daughter, Kelly Lynn Hilliard and Greg Dowell with whom he made his home, son, Michael (Kelly) Hilliard of Niles; five grandchildren, Matthew Bernhard, Katie Keene, Trevor Bernhard, Blake McDonald, Morgan Hilliard; great grandchild, Riley Bernhard; brother in law James Minto of Niles. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Joyce Louise (Minto) Hilliard whom he married on November 26, 1955 and who passed away on April 1, 2010 and twelve siblings. Calling Hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday January 29, 2021 at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday January 30, 2021 at the Niles First Christian Church where family and friends may also call one hour prior to the service. Rev. Christopher Stark will officiate. Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Niles Community Services 401 Vienna Avenue, Niles, Ohio 44446.
