Ronald Neil Thomas

NILES - Ronald Neil Thomas, 83, passed away peacefully at 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday June 1, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family following a long illness. He was born in Niles on September 9, 1932 the son of David Aubrey and Martha Mae (Kennedy) Thomas. A 1951 graduate of Niles McKinley High School he honorably served in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Midway and U.S.S. Iowa. He retired in 1995 after working 45 years in the steel industry at Republic Steel, Niles and WCI Company, Warren. He was of the Christian Faith and loved music and golfing. He enjoyed tending to his yard work around the house and especially cherished the family picnics. Ron is survived by his wife Barbara Joan (Thompson) Thomas whom he married on June 7, 1952 at St. Stephen Church, Niles; brother, Norman (Marjorie) Thomas of Ocala, Florida; six children, Catherine Joan (Robert) Montgomery of Port Richey, Florida, Erica Mae Thomas of Niles, Thomas George (Sarah Kerro) Thomas of St. Petersburg, Florida, Timothy Shawn Thomas of Orlando, Florida, Todd Neil (Becky) Thomas of Niles, Terrence Paul (Vanessa) Thomas of Niles; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Carol Abernathy and Sandra Nicastro. Calling Hours will be Monday, June 6, 2016 from Noon to 2:00 p.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. The Funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. Dennis Carpenter of the Niles First Christian Church will officiate. Military Honors will be provided by the Trumbull County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Friends and Family Relay for Life Team or the donor's favorite charity,
