Sophia O. Puskarich

NILES - Sophia O. Puskarich, 92, died at 3:06am, Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at the St. Joseph Health Center following an extended illness. She was born in Avella, Pennsylvania on April 29, 1922 to Rudolph and Theresa (Tolar) Ograyensek and came to this area in 1954. Sophia was affectionately known as Sophie and was employed at a cook with the Niles School System for 17 years, She retired in 1986. During World War II she was a welder at the American Bridge Company, Ambridge, Pa. After rertirement, Sophie enjoyed swimming at the Niles YMCA, traveling on bus trips and train rides and the activities at the Niles Senior Center. She loved spending quality time with her family, they were her greatest joy. She is survived a daughter, Rosemarie Clouser and a son, Joseph "Bud" (Sharon) Puskarich both of Niles, three grandchildren Lisa (Roger) Grimm of Brimfield, Jonathan Clouser of Niles, Cathy (David) Guerra of McDonald, and four great grandchildren Marley and Alec Grimm, Macey and Anna Guerra, and a sister, Irene Farrer of Washington, Pa., and many nieces and nephews to whom she was very close. Sophie would like to give a special thank you to two special friends Kay Marburger and Patricia Raub for all their love, support and friendship over these many years. Sophie was preceded in death on December 5, 1998 by her husband Joseph Puskarich whom she married June 14, 1947, three sisters Matilda Kimble, Rose Christman, Mary Segreto six brothers Rudy, Louis and Charles Ograyensek, Robert, Frank and Joseph Cokel, son-in-law David Clouser. Calling hours will be held at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home, Friday, August 15, 2014 from 9:00am to 11:00am. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 15, 2014 at 11:00am. Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
