Thomas Scott Glunt

March 24, 1928 — January 10, 2015

NILES - Thomas Scott "Bud" Glunt, 86, passed away at 8:08 pm on Saturday January 10, 2015 at his residence following a brief illness. He was born in Holidaysburg, Pennsylvania on March 24, 1928 the son of Thomas and Mildred (Sellers) Glunt. Thomas graduated from Niles McKinley High School in 1945 and immediately joined the Merchant Marines and served as second cook aboard the Liberty Ship David Yulee. Later he was drafted into the United States Army, where he served faithfully in the Korean War, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Bud retired in 1991 as the parts manager after working 28 years for Fruehauf Corporation / Girard Equipment. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Niles where he served on the finance committee, an usher and a church trustee for many years. Bud was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. His motto was, "Learn to Love and be Loved." He enjoyed watching football, cheering on Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns. He treasured vacations with Carol and friends Jane and Don Graf of Columbus, whether at the beach in Treasure Island, Florida or in Sam's Town, Tunica, Mississippi. In his younger years, he enjoyed riding motorcycles and sky diving. He is survived by his wife Carol (Williams) Glunt whom he married on November 27, 1965 and celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary this past Thanksgiving Day; two daughters, Linda (Ed) Binion of McDonald, Cindy (Steve) Disko of Niles; son, Jeff (JoAnn) Prosser of Palm Bay, Florida, Dave (Patty) Glunt of Turkey, North Carolina; 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; sister, Dory Beck of Howland and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Betty Smith, Peg Helle and a brother, Robin Glunt. Calling Hours will be Wednesday, January 14, 2015 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. The Funeral will be Thursday, January 15. 2015 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Rev. Nathan Howe will officiate.
