Timothy P. Abraham

Timothy P. Abraham, 94, of Niles, died peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 2, 1932, in Canton, Ohio, a son of Younes and Maria (Dager) Abraham, who immigrated to the United States from Miziara (Missreh), Lebanon, and made their home in Canton, where they operated a grocery store for many years.

Mr. Abraham, or “Mr. Abes” as he was affectionately known, was a 1950 graduate of Canton Central Catholic High School. He moved to Niles after high school and resided with his mother’s siblings, Ojenia George and Youstianous “Y” George, while attending Youngstown College, which became the present-day Youngstown State University.

At Youngstown, he studied history and chemistry, was a charter member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity/Ohio Mu Chapter and was active in the Newman Club. At college he met his future wife, Mary Catherine “Cass” Minerich. They were married June 27, 1959, and celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary this year.

Together they built a life in Niles where they raised their three children with a strong foundation of faith, family, education and hard work. He was especially proud of the educational and professional accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.

He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 33 years, retiring as a postmaster, was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and had served as Democratic precinct committeeman in Niles. He was a longtime member of St. Stephen Church, where he previously served as a Eucharistic Minister for the homebound.

Mr. Abraham was very proud of his Lebanese heritage and always looked forward to family time spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, enjoying delicious meals, particular Lebanese food.

He was a fan of all Cleveland and Ohio sports teams, with a lifelong devotion to Cleveland Indians/Guardians baseball and enjoyed reading, particularly books on history. He had a passion for chocolates, shortbread cookies, ice cream and all things Snoopy, and enjoyed most on a daily basis.

He is survived by his wife, Cass; one son, Timothy C. Abraham and his wife Beth of Canfield; two daughters, Julie Abraham and her husband James Yuhasz of Niles, and Lisa Abraham and her husband Richard Hart of Warren; grandchildren, Emily Knebel and her husband Eli of Mason, Ohio, Ryan Abraham and his wife Alyssa of Canfield and Julia and Maria Yuhasz of Niles; and great-grandchildren Avery and Camden Abraham, Naomi Knebel, with another Abraham great-grandchild due in January.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Joseph Ibrahim and sisters Matilda Boutros and Therese Kablan all in Lebanon, sisters Agnes Hajje and Harleen Abraham of Canton, as well as an infant brother George and infant sister Raja.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026, at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home in Niles, where a Maronite Catholic prayer service will take place at closing.

Morning prayers at the funeral home will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2026, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen Church, with the Rev. Leo Wehrlin celebrating.
