William Edward Whetstone

NILES - William Edward Whetstone Jr. 72, passed away peacefully at 3:20 a.m. on Sunday January 6, 2019 at his home with his loving family at his side. He was born in Niles on September 14, 1946 a son of William Edward and Dorothy C. (Mikula) Whetstone Sr. Bill was a 1964 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and honorably served in the United States Army from June of 1964 to January 1972. During his tour of duty he was stationed twice in Korea, twice in Vietnam and in Germany and he was the recipient of the distinguished Bronze Star Medal and two Service Stars to the Vietnam Service Medal. He was a member of St. Stephen Church. He started his career in the cable tv industry at Mahoning Valley Cable and worked as a general manager for several cable tv companies throughout the United States for over 30 years. For many years he played men's fast pitch softball where he was the pitcher. Bill loved working in his yard, gardening, fishing and golfing. Most of all he cherished the time spent with his wife traveling and visiting the grandchildren. Bill is survived by his wife Jacqueline "Jacquie" (Rawlins) Whetstone whom he married on October 11, 1969; two sons, William Edward (Sherry) Whetstone III of Murrieta, California, Steven (Joy) Whetstone of Aliso Viejo, California; five grandchildren, Jonathan, Emily, Andrew, Annmarie, Joshua; sister, Cheryl Ann Whetstone of Niles and brother, Stanley (Joyce) Whetstone of Newton Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents. A private graveside service with military honors will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville.
