LIBERTY TOWNSHIP - Doris Louise Balla, passed away peacefully at 8:35 p.m. on Monday June 13, 2022 at the Windsor House at Liberty Health Care Center. She was born in Youngstown, Ohio on February 14, 1931 the daughter of Ivan E. and Emma L. (Adaway) Creed.
She graduated from Vienna High School in 1948. Doris received her Bachelors of Science in Education and Masters of Science in Early Childhood Education from Youngstown State University. She drove school bus for Vienna and Lakeview Schools for 15 years. Besides teaching at the Butler School for the Retarded (before Leonard Kurtz was built), she also started the Developmental Handicapped Class at Lakeview Elementary School before finally moving to teach Kindergarten through her 30 years in Education. At Lakeview, Doris designed and began pre-testing children for hearing, speech and coordination problems before entering school.
For many years Doris and her husband Joseph formerly lived in Niles and Cortland. Doris was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Niles, a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star Sunrise Chapter #458 since 1949 and the Daughters of the American Revolution, Mary Chesney Chapter of Warren. Many years ago she became interested in Genealogy belonging to Certified First Families of Ohio, Pioneer Families of Ohio and Civil War Families of Ohio and Alabama.
Doris is survived by three children, Terry (Jane) Balla of Vienna, Robert (Sharon) Balla of Lubbock, Texas, Patti Rising and Billy Newell of Girard. She adored her seven grandchildren who called her "Grandma Easy"; Samantha Balla, Terra Balla, Candace (Chuck) Clegg, Christopher (Amanda) Balla, Steven Balla (Nicole), Nick Rising , Zak (Jennifer) Balla; and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph C. Balla whom she married on February 11, 1950 and who passed away on May 25, 2005.
In keeping with Doris' wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral services. The immediate family will gather to place her cremated remains with her husband at the Pineview Cemetery Mausoleum. Arrangements by the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home 126 West Park Avenue, Niles, Ohio 44446 330-652-4311.
